Glycerites are herbal tinctures made with Vegetable glycerine instead of alcohol.
Glycerine will produce less concentrated extractions but are an option for those looking for an alcohol free solution.
Glycerine is diluted with 3 parts of water. You can extract hot or cold.
Hot can be done in a double boiler at low heat for a few days. Simply add your cut and sifted herbs into large mason jars to 2/3 of the way and fill with vegetable glycerin to the top. Filter and it is ready to use.
Cold will take a month or more and uses the same method.
Since dry extracts are the most refined version of the plants, you can use them to make potent glycerites using a special technique. To make kava glycerite, you can use a 70% CO2 extract and dilute it into warm Vegetable Glycerin. A little bit of math will let you know exactly how much kavalactones are in your finished products.
