You can use herbal tinctures to compliment kava drinks but use very sparingly.
Since most tinctures are made with alcohol, we suggest using only a few drops at a time.
You can make tinctures using vodka or higher proof alcohol.
They will usually take 1 month at room temperature to extract. You can shake it once or twice a day.
2 parts alcohol
1 part herb cut and sifted
Mason jar or glass bottle
100 micron mesh filter bag
Fill a glass jar or bottle with the herb and alcohol.
Make sure you can close the lid.
Shake vigorously for 1 minute each day and store in a dark place.
After one month, you can filter the contents through a 100-micron mesh filter
The technique above is for a cold extract, but you can significantly speed up the extracting process and be ready to filter in 4-8 hours by applying heat.
You will need to emerge your glass container in a double boiler and make sure you do this outside or under a fume hood. Make sure that your container is not sealed so that any vapor pressure can be released.
Skip all of the above and make a tincture using a reversed extract technique, you'll be able to measure the exact level of actives in each ml with a bit of math. This technique is used by professional formulators looking to save time and end up with a standardised tincture.
